Gresini Racing Embraces Crypto for New Fan Sponsorship

Gresini Racing has teamed up with MotoGP Guru and SPORTPASS, a subsidiary of Animoca Brands, to launch a unique fan-centric motorsport sponsorship initiative. This program will give MotoGP enthusiasts the exciting opportunity to acquire personal sponsorship packages for the team, with prices starting at 125 euros. Graeme Warring, the founder of WePlay Media, shared insights with on the main hurdle in introducing these accessible MotoGP sponsorship packages. He remarked, “The biggest challenge is, as with anything, selling it. Finding a product or market fit when you launch something new that has never been done before is always challenging.”

The gaming studio behind MotoGP Guru, WePlay Media, has put in place the necessary infrastructure and on-the-ground teams to bring life to real-life experiences. According to Warring, this development is crucial in ensuring that fans have a tangible and engaging experience through this program.

An essential aspect of the initiative is its potential for decentralization. By offering sponsorship at a lower cost, the program becomes accessible to a wider and more varied audience. Warring emphasized the importance of decentralization in this context, suggesting that it could democratize the ownership of MotoGP teams and foster greater fan involvement. He stated, “Decentralization as a concept is at the heart of this program. Instead of the big corporate sponsors dominating the sponsorship space, we are innovating around the decentralization thesis of direct ownership of the fan experience by the fans.”

Warring further discussed the broader implications of decentralization on professional sports. He speculated on its future impact, saying, “Who knows how this will play out? Let’s see. Decentralization has played a part in leveling the playing field in many quarters, and it could well do it here in professional sport.”

The fan-powered sponsorship packages offer several exclusive perks. These include VIP Paddock Experiences at the 2024 Grand Prix events, the inclusion of fan names on the bikes and team websites, and participation in special events. Fans who purchase these packages will have the chance to join Zoom calls with team members and receive custom merchandise.

Fans will also have the unique opportunity to win a Ducati Panigale V4S used by Marc Marquez, further enhancing the appeal of these sponsorship packages. This offers a unique and memorable experience for MotoGP fans, allowing them to feel more connected to the sport and their favorite teams.

Warring believes that this initiative could set a precedent in the world of professional sports, proving that fan involvement can be significantly increased through innovative and accessible sponsorship models. By decentralizing the ownership and experience, Gresini Racing and its partners are pioneering a new way for fans to engage with the sport they love.

This program reflects a broader trend in sports sponsorship, where fan engagement and decentralization are becoming increasingly important. As the sports industry evolves, initiatives like this could redefine the relationship between teams and their supporters, making it more interactive and inclusive.
